Some Pieces I have done lately
I threw together some random designs on some coasters to see how the woo blue glaze would work on texture. I wasn’t too thrilled but someone offered to buy them off me last night so who am I to say no..
I ended up using some of my anatomy dissection tools on another set of coasters so I could hand carve designs into them. I was surprised how well it worked and I plan on using them again in the future. I used a winokur yellow glaze on them and you can tell I am still getting used to glazing things. Some I dipped perfectly while others I left in too long. I think they are ok for my first attempt at a whole working unit. I might redo a couple of the whiter ones as the glaze is too thick. The ones with a nice toasty marshmallow colour are the desired effect I was after.
Daniel likes to throw, and I use the term “like” loosely, pieces but HATES to glaze things because you never quite know what you are going to get. If it wasn’t for me a lot of things would be sitting in our cubby bisqued and lonely. I take it upon myself to experiment with his things and a lot of the time they turn out quite nice. Take for example the piece below. Daniel threw it and I am using some of the new Duncan underglazes I bought.. this one is a neon blue. I did my design on it with an underglaze pen and I am excited to see the end result. It should be out of the kiln on wednesday of next week. This will be my first time using this underglaze and this new low fire clear glaze. However it turns out it will make a nice christmas present! ;o)
I want to show off Mrs. Boobs’ cousin, Elliot. He was my prototype for the line of sculptures I plan on making. He’s a bit troubled so please excuse his looks.
As always, PLEASE let me know if you have and feedback on my pieces. I am trying to grow as an artist and anything people have to say helps me out.
Happy Thanksgiving!
